In my application for the Dunu Micro Residency at the Open Kitchen Sculpture Garden, I had proposed making pinch pot planters, seed saving vessels, and teaching about plant propagation using native plants from local gardens.
A thumb injury at the last minute forced a detour. The playbook and images here document the project I ended up doing—drawing and painting on my kitchen walls at home as a practice in following through on the creative impulse over and over again.
You'll find the whole story along with some generative creative prompts in this downloadable 9-page PDF booklet. I hope you enjoy!

Some of my most vivid early memories are of making art—drawing a crow with a golden beak out of melted crayons; creating a watercolor portrait of a porcelain doll wearing a bonnet; weaving brightly colored potholders on a little loom—memories that contain the feeling of total concentration and contentment.

Having studied many disciplines in the decades since elementary school, art making is now a place where my diverse interests can intersect, overlap, and inform each other. Devotion to the natural world, decorative arts from around the globe, music, poetry, and the healing arts all shape my approach to a piece.
